Application for Examination
Applications for a refrigeration plant operator's examination or the examination for any category of limited power engineer may be made at any time prior to the examination by calling our Regina or Saskatoon office to ensure examination space is available. Applications for the Refrigeration Engineers' and 1st through 5th Class Power Engineers' examinations shall be made 21 days before an examination sitting on the prescribed application form.
Verification of operating experience shall be submitted to qualify for an examination where there is a requirement within the regulations. A candidate for a limited power engineer's examination or for Part A of the first, second, third, or fourth class power engineer's examination need not submit verification of operating experience.
Examination Fees
Payment for the examination must now be made at the time of application. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The examination fee is payable by cash, cheque, money order, debit card payment, or credit card. Cheques and money orders shall be made payable to "Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan". Fees are now subject to GST as listed in the table below:

Examination Rules and Pass Mark
The minimum pass mark for each examination paper is 65%. Examination candidates for limited power engineer's and refrigeration plant operator's certificates of qualification will be given 1 ½ hours to write the examination. Examination candidates for a refrigeration engineer's or 1st through to 5th class power engineer's certificate of qualification will be given 3 ½ hours to write any one examination paper. A candidate who fails any examination must wait a minimum of 30 days before being re-examined.
Only materials approved for use during the examination may be brought into the examination room and are subject to review by the examiner. Note that there should be no markings made within any allowable reference material as the examiner may remove the offending reference material. Further note that technical dictionaries, translation dictionaries, programmable calculators, cell phones, pda's, and MP3's will not be allowed in the examination room. All examination candidates will be required to produce photo identification.
Examination Results
As of February 1st 2012, examination results will be made available on our website one week from the date of the exam. You can access your grade through the Exam Results page on the left side menu. Examination results will not be given over the telephone or in person and will not be mailed out to your address.
However, if you wish to obtain a letter stating your grade you may apply to the Manager of Examinations and Certification in writing to have a letter issued. Your request should include the reason why you cannot obtain your grade from the website. Requests will only be accepted once the marks have been posted to the website. You may submit your request :
