Frequently Asked Questions -
Power Engineering
Below are some of the frequently asked questions that we receive about power engineering in Saskatchewan. If you need more information, or your question has not been answered below, please contact us.
I failed my exam, what do I need to do to write again?
You will need to go through the booking process again by submitting an application form and fee. However, you must have 30 days between your exam dates. You may re-apply right away, but we can only book you into a test day that will be at least 30 days from when you failed the exam.
Please note that you will still be able to write other exams you are eligible for.
Examples:
- If you failed a fireman's exam, you may write a Refrigeration Operator's exam without waiting 30 days from when you failed the Fireman's
- if you failed your 3rd Class Part A Paper 2 exam, you may write a 3rd Class Part A Paper 1 exam without waiting 30 days from when you failed your 3rd A2
This assumes that if you have previously failed the other exams you wish to write, you also have 30 days between those test dates.
My licence is about to expire. Do I need to do anything?
If we have your correct address on file we will send you a renewal notice in the mail about a month before your expiry date. All you will need to do is return a copy of the letter, along with payment of the fee to our office by fax, mail or in person by your expiry date. We will send you a new five year licence in the mail.
If you do not receive your notice in the mail, please contact us to make arrangements to renew your licence.
What is the difference between a Certificate and a Licence?
The Certificate refers to the 8 1/2 by 11 wall document. It is proof that you have passed all the exams required for that class level. The certificate has no expiry date.
The Licence refers to the wallet sized document. It is similar to a driver's licence. It is proof that you are allowed to legally work in Saskatchewan. Your licence is vaild for five years from the date of issue. You must hold a vaild Saskatchewan licence to work as a power engineer or limited power engineer in Saskatchewan.
I have lost my certificate or licence. Can I get a copy of it?
To get a duplicate copy of your certificate or licence you will need to fill out the form LIB-0012 Application for Duplicate Licence or Certificate and submit it along with the fee.
I have a Saskatchewan issued inter-provincial Power Engineering Certificate and Licence. What do I need to do if I want to work outside the province?
You will need to contact the jurisdiction that you will be working in to see what their requirements are for you to legally work there. Our Links page has a list of Canadian jurisdictions for your information.
What happens to my Saskatchewan Certification if I work outside the province?
Your Saskatchewan Power Engineering certificate will always remain valid, no matter what jurisdiction you are working in. However, if you want to work in Saskatchewan in the future, you will need to make sure that your Saskatchewan licence is up to date before you start work. You can keep your licence up to date while you are working outside the province or you can renew it when needed by contacting our office.
