Initial Pressure Welder’s Test

 

You need to perform an Initial Pressure Welder’s Test if you have never had a pressure ticket before.

Anyone wishing to register for an Intial Pressure Weld test must provide proof that they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Possessing a journeyperson’s certificate in welder trade
  • Having acceptable certified 5400 hrs ("3 years") welding work experience
  • Holding/held a pressure welder’s certificate issued by another jurisdiction in Canada
  • Previously tested through TSASK

Your proof of qualification must be submitted with your application form.

 

The test will be conducted according to ASME IX on 6 inch Sch. 80 A106B pipe.

The test will be guided by BPVS-0 (TSASK’s WPS) which covers:

  • SMAW process
  • F3 (6010) open root
  • F4 (7018) fill
  • P1 to P1
  • 2G (1/3 of pipe circumference) & 5G (2/3 of pipe circumference)

Test coupons can be purchased from TSASK or self-supplied. If you supply your own test coupon, it's dimensions must meet the ones in the drawing below:

Your license will be issued once you have passed the test. The license will be valid for two years, is un-restricted and can be transferred to other jurisdictions of Canada.

Per Section 110(2) of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulation, if you do not pass the initial qualification test on your first attempt, you must wait 30 days before testing again.

Booking Your Pressure Weld Test

Weld testing is done on a regular basis in Regina and Saskatoon. A limited number of spots are available for each weld test session and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Your application form, proof of qualification and fee must be received before we are able to book your test. Please ensure we receive this information before the cut off date for the session you want to test in. We are not able to hold spots.

If you are using mail or fax, please send your application form, proof of qualification and fee directly to the office in the city you wish to test in. Applications can also be dropped off in person at either of our offices.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your test, please ensure that you call at least 48 hours prior to your test date. Absolutely no refunds for "no shows" or cancellations received later than 48 hours prior to your test date.
