Cross Connection Control

Low compliance has been observed related to the installation of cross connection control and backflow protection devices, in accordance with the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC).

Compliance with safety standards established under the Construction Code Act and the Plumbing Code Regulations will ensure safe plumbing systems throughout Saskatchewan.

Section 2.6.2 Division B of the NPC outlines requirements for the protection of potable water systems through the selection and installation of backflow preventers. Appendix A of the Saskatchewan Plumbing Code Regulations amends sentences (1), (2), (3) and (4) pertaining to the requirements for the protection from backflow on fire protection systems.

Plumbing permit holders construction new plumbing systems must ensure installations are completed in accordance with 2.6.2 Division B of the 2020 edition of the NPC and the Saskatchewan Plumbing Code Regulations.

The cities of Regina, Saskatoon, Lloydminster, and the Global Transportation Hub are subject to local bylaws and jurisdiction.
