1380 kPa (200 psi) Propane Tanks (September 2017)

Overview

Recently, TSASK received an inquiry regarding the filling of a 1380 kPa (200 psi) propane tank by connecting it to a 1725 kPa (250 psi) propane tank. The smaller tank would be filled through the
larger tank. TSASK did not accept this arrangement.

The filling of 1380 kPa (200 psi) tanks is only part of the issue. The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulations for Saskatchewan clearly state in clause 17(2) that:
Pressure vessels that are to be used in the handling and storage of liquefied petroleum gas [propane] must be designed for a pressure of not less than 1 725 kilopascals.

Therefore, 1380 kPa (200 psi) tanks do not meet the requirements of the Regulations and must not to be used in Saskatchewan.
