Approval of Henning ELVI 2 Test Equipment

Overview

TSASK now accepts Henning ELVI 2 test equipment for Category 5 tests without load via alternative test methodologies without the need for a baseline.

The Henning ELVI 2 test equipment received a certification of conformance with ASME A17.7-2007/CSA B44.7-07 through Liftinstituut B.V. (Certificate no. NL20-0842-1004-030-02).

These tests may only be performed by a licensed elevating device contractor or a licensed elevating device mechanic. The contractor shall have either a letter of approval issued by TSASK, or a Quality Management System certificate that includes alternative test methodologies in the scope of work.

The following category 5 tests on hydraulic and electric elevators can be performed using the Henning ELVI 2 test equipment.

  • Machine brake test according to 8.6.4.20.4
  • Emergency brake test according to 8.6.4.20.11
  • Traction according to 8.6.4.20.10
  • Safety test according to 8.6.4.20.1
  • Buffer test according to 8.6.4.20.3

During Category testing, no load testing is permissible. The Emergency Terminal Stopping and Speed-Limiting Devices (8.6.4.20.3) tests are not to be performed at rated load.

Elevating Device Contractors seeking approval to use the Henning ELVI 2 elevator testing system must submit the following information to elevatordesign@tsask.ca.

  • An application letter specifying:
    • The scope of work will include the use of the Henning ELVI 2 test equipment per ASME A17.1-2013/CSA B44-13 section 8.6.11.10.
    • That the alternative test methodology will only be performed on elevators that have had a completed initial acceptance inspection performed by TSASK.
    • That the elevator has had a previous successful full load test.
    • That all test results will be documented on the applicable form per the Elevator Periodic Category Tests and Inspection Frequency bulletin with a record left on site in the maintenance log.
    • That a metal data test tag will be used as per ASME A17.1-2013/CSA B44-13 section 8.6.1.7.2.
    • That TSASK will be notified immediately if the testing fails.
  • An original manufacturer calibration certificate or a contractor maintenance and calibration verification document or certificate of compliance with ASME A17.1-2013/CSA B44-13 sections 8.6.11.10.3 and 8.6.11.10.4.
  • A listing of all licensed elevating device mechanics that have been trained and are competent to use the testing equipment. This listing shall be maintained by the contractor and subject to request by TSASK.
