Terms & Conditions
  • For additional information see Gas Inspection and Related Fees.
  • Permit refunds are only available within one year of permit application prior to the commencement of work. No refunds will be processed after the work commences.
  • Overtime working hours are Monday to Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and Saturdays & Sundays inclusive.
  • For billing purposes, public statutory holidays are New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Saskatchewan Day, Labour Day, Truth & Reconciliation Day, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
  • All inspection services may be subject to travel related expenses.
  • The ‘Appeal against the inspector’ fee will be refunded if the appeal is successful.
Unless otherwise specified within this schedule, rates per hour are based upon ½ hour or portion thereof – minimum 1 hour.

GAS INSPECTION AND RELATED FEES ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Scope
This Fee Schedule is valid only for licensed and bonded Gas Contractors pursuant to the Gas Licensing Act and Regulations.
As per the Gas Licensing Regulations Section 5, “the holder of a domestic contractor’s license may undertake work only on domestic installations, i.e., any installation where the combined load does not exceed 205 KW (700,000 Btu/hr), and individual appliance load does not exceed 117 KW (400,000 Btu/hr)”.
Definitions
Alteration (use when adding or altering piping or altering venting)
When either:

  • A main or branch line is altered to add additional piping, relocate an appliance, repair the line, or add an outlet for an appliance.
  • The work consists solely of alteration, repair, or replacement of venting for an existing appliance (see Venting).
  • An Alteration permit is not required when tying into an existing future outlet.
  • An Alteration permit is not required when combined with an Addition, and an Underground reported on the same permit.
  • Alteration permits are required when any gas piping is pre-installed prior to appliance installation. This ensures that the contractor altering the piping is responsible for thier part of the installation.
Addition (use when adding an appliance)
When an appliance is added to an existing system, a quick connect device is considered an appliance. This includes appliance installation and any necessary piping or venting.
Commercial
Buildings having Assembly, Detention, Treatment, Care, Business, Personal Services, Mercantile or Industrial Occupancies.
Grain Dryer / Bin Dryer
A Grain Dryer over 400,000 Btu/hr is considered commercial fees.
Include, Includes, Included, Including
For the purpose of this fee schedule Include, Includes, Included or Including means work that is performed by the same contractor at the same time.

Multi-Family – see Residential
New Job
Permanent Installations where a fuel supply had not previously been connected or the conversion of an existing system from one fuel type to another.
When a branch line is terminated outdoors with a quick-connect intended for use with a portable outdoor appliance, it is considered an appliance. Branch lines otherwise terminated with a plug
or cap (indoors or outdoors) are considered for future use and are not considered appliances under this schedule.
A New Job will include a Propane Tank Set if all tank, piping, and appliance installations are done by the same contractor
Temporary appliances are not included in New Job fees and must be submitted on a separate permit.
Propane Tank Set
Installation of a propane tank or multiple propane containers in accordance with CSA B149.2.
Each tank with a capacity of 120 USWG (420 lb) or larger is subject to a Propane Tank Set permit.
Each multiple-tank manifold system acting as a single fuel source is subject to a single Propane Tank Set permit.
One 420 lb. cylinder (pig) is considered a tank.
Is included in a residential or commercial New Job permit if the tank(s), piping, and appliance installations are done by the same contractor at the same time.
Includes the vapour supply line to the second stage regulator and/or liquid supply line to equipment if done by the same contractor at the same time.
The applicant shall include the customer’s purpose for the propane tank set in the Work Description section of the permit application. The Work Description shall include the gas
contractor’s installation gas permit number for piping that will connect to the tank when the purpose of the tank set is a new permanent gas supply to a building or to non-oilfield gas-burning
equipment.
Propane Tank Set is not required when part of a Temporary Mobile Trailer permit.
Propane containers under 120 USWG (under 420 lb.) are considered portable cylinders not subject to permit unless:

  • Installed as a multiple-container manifold system having a total capacity of 120 USWG (420 lb.) or more; or
  • Stored in a Retail propane tank exchange site, then the exchange site is subject to the appropriate permit.
Reconnection
Re-activating a fuel supply to an existing system after one year of disconnection.
An air test shall be performed on all piping.
Replacement
Replacing an appliance with an appliance designed to provide the same functionality as the original.
Replacement of a heat exchanger in any appliance (Residential or Commercial), including, but not limited to, those in furnaces, heaters, water heaters and boilers.
The replacement permit includes any resulting alterations or replacements to the venting system.
Residential
Any building or the part of a building used as a family dwelling.
Includes all single-family and multi-family structures where each unit has a gas meter.
A new multi-family structure having one gas meter and individual residential suites shall require either:

  • A Commercial New Job permit for common-use appliances (such as central heating or hallway make-up air) and separate Residential Addition permits per suite for in-suite gas appliances; or
  • Where there are no common-use appliances, one Residential New Job permit for the first suite and separate Residential Addition permits per suite for in-suite gas appliances
An existing multi-family structure with one gas meter and individual residential suites shall require Commercial Replacement or Addition permits for common-use appliances (such as central heating or hallway make-up air) and separate Residential Replacement or Addition permit(s) for in-suite gas appliances.
Retail propane tank exchange site
A protected location on a retail property with no more than four adjacent cages/cabinets containing empty and full propane cylinders, each with a maximum capacity of 30 lbs, intended for exchange or sale. The maximum capacity of each cabinet is limited to an aggregate of 500 lbs
Temporary
A Temporary permit expires 90 days after the date of issuance – Gas Inspection Regulation 9(2).
Temporary equipment connections are not to be included in New Job permits and must be submitted on a separate permit.
Temporary Mobile Trailer (includes office trailers, wash trailers, and sleeping bunks)
The Temporary Mobile Trailer expires 90 days after the date of issuance.
A Mobile Trailer permit includes the propane storage containers and appliances.
Treater/Battery Site
Treater or battery sites typically serve multiple wells and have utility supplied electrical service.
This includes any facility that is regularly occupied with an office space on-site.
Wellhead Site
An unmanned site. A Wellhead New Job permit includes up to two pieces of gas-fired equipment from the following list: tank heater, gas engine, and/or catalytic heater.
Underground
Where an underground gas line is installed, an Underground permit is required, whether or not the gas line is connected to a fuel source.

  • Alteration permits are required as necessary unless combined with both an Addition and an Underground reported on the same permit at the same time.
  • An Underground permit is not required if installed under a New Job permit.
Vaporizer
A gas-fueled vaporizer is an appliance, and its installation shall be done under a permit in accordance with the commercial fee schedule for the installation of appliances.
Venting
Piping or ducting necessary to convey products of combustion to an outdoor safe location.
An Alteration permit is required when any existing venting is altered, repaired, or replaced and is not covered under another gas permit.
