Overview
This bulletin is for awareness and has direct impact on all construction projects utilizing propane gas piping systems, especially those serving temporary trailers for office or workforce accommodations.
TSASK Gas and Electrical Inspections is reminding all gas and electrical contractors that the minimum acceptable clearance between a propane regulator vent and any source of ignition such
as arc producing electrical equipment, an equipment disconnect switch, electrical receptacle or utility meter is 10ft (3M).
This clearance requirement is detailed in table 5.3 in CSA B149.1-20 and rule 2-326 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1.
The prudent solution in most cases will be the extension of the termination point of the propane regulator vent to a safe location by the gas permit holder in accordance with the requirements
in CSA B149.1-20 for venting of pressure control devices.
