Overview
In past years we have identified numerous deficiencies in the replacement of car door operators and door re-opening devices regarding the proper operation to current adopted code requirements. Deficiencies are identified as excessive door torque or speed, nudging operation not functional, entrapment issues from door closing forces and detectors not cutting out or nudging operation not supplied with detector replacements.
As a result, we require that any power-type door operator of a different manufacturer or model number or any installation of an infrared door detector will require a special safety inspection at
applicable billing rates for the site time. See ASME A 17.1/CSA B44-13, Clause 8.7.2.12 and 8.7.2.13 for component identification.
Alterations conducted upon entrances or hall doors, including interlocks/pick-up assemblies, other than the same replacement or repair on components, will require the installation of safety retainers or equivalent upon all horizontal sliding door assemblies. See ASME A 17.1/CSA B44-13, Clause 2.11.11.8
Alterations to the replacement of the door operator, which includes any new hall door components, will be required to comply with ASME A 17.1/CSA B44-13, Clause 8.7.2.11 for Interlocks, Clause 8.7.2.11.4 Unlocking Devices and Clause 8.7.2.11.5 Restricted Opening for Car Doors.
These alterations will not require registration, but a notice indicating replacement specifications needs to be sent to elevatordesign@tsask.ca for TSASKs records.
Once the alteration is completed, the installer must inform TSASK directly to arrange a scheduled special inspection to log and record all safety code requirements. The elevator may be placed back into public operation once our office is notified of the completion provided data indicating car door speed, torque, detector cutout time and nudging speed is forwarded for our records.
Thank you for your assistance in maintaining design registration and safety data entries on existing elevator installations.
