2-024 Markings for electrical moveable equipment

Overview

Structures, E-houses, Modules, Shipping-containers (Sea can) are not considered “electrical equipment”. Given that, an electrical permit from a Saskatchewan licensed electrical contractor is required for the interconnecting wiring.

As with manufactured or mobile homes, industrial buildings may be eligible for an overall approval in accordance with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) A277 Procedure for factory certification of buildings. However, this can only be done at the factory by a SCC accredited certification body. Electrical equipment skids such as air compressors, lube oil packages and similar equipment may be eligible for an approval marking if they have been evaluated by a certification body or special inspection body in accordance with the corresponding applicable standard(s). For these types of equipment, the certification standards prescribe the requirements for the exposed wiring or make a normative reference to the Canadian Electrical Code.

Each individual piece of electrical equipment requires approval. The interconnection of that equipment forms an electrical installation that must comply with the installation requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code.

The interconnection of electrical equipment does not fall under the scope of SPE1000. Therefore, an Electrical Permit is required for structures, e-houses, modules, and shipping-containers – the SPE1000 approval label is no longer acceptable.

Plans and Specifications shall be submitted for review, shall become part of the equipment, and shall remain with the equipment.

For all installations that are or are about to be installed, please contact TSASK Electrical Inspections prior to proceeding with any changes for guidance on what is acceptable.
