Overview
NDE procedure demonstration to a TSASK Authorized Inspector is required wherever the code of construction requires inspection by an Authorized Inspector and where the code also requires NDE procedure compliance with par. T-150 of ASME Section V.
For example, in ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1, UG-91 defines that the Inspector means the Authorized Inspector, and for magnetic particle examination, UG-103 requires compliance with Mandatory Appendix 6, and Mandatory Appendix 6 part 6-1(c) requires compliance with T-150 of ASME Section V, and T-150(a)(2) requires the NDE procedure demonstration.
ASME B31.1-2024 par. 100.1.2 states that the inspection requirements of ASME Section I apply to boiler external piping and joint (BEP). NDE on BEP is therefore subject to NDE procedure demonstration requirements as set out by ASME Section I. For nonboiler external piping and joint (NBEP) the provisions of ASME B31.1 govern, and there is no NDE procedure demonstration requirement for NBEP.
For ASME B31.3 piping, inspection by an Authorized Inspector is not required. Therefore, NDE procedure demonstration to a TSASK Authorized Inspector is not required.
Note that CSA B51 facilities may manufacture under ASME Code requirements, such as ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1, and thus they, or their NDE subcontractors, may be required to perform NDE procedure demonstrations to a TSASK Authorized Inspector.

Note that an NDE procedure demonstration must be done at a facility in Saskatchewan that is provided by the applicant.
An NDE procedure that has been successfully demonstrated to a TSASK Authorized Inspector shall be documented on a form provided by the NDE Company and shall be signed and dated by the TSASK Authorized Inspector. The demonstration remains valid until the NDE procedure is revised for any reason, or is required to be revised by, for example, a code change.
An NDE procedure that has been successfully demonstrated is acceptable for both shop and field work, provided that the same NDE procedure is followed in all locations.
