Overview
This bulletin provides clarification on the requirements for Power Operated Horizontally Sliding Hoistway Doors, Car Doors, and Gates for kinetic energy testing, which includes frequency, documentation, and compliance expectations in accordance with CSA B44/ASME A17.1-2013.
As of January 1, 2027, all applicable devices, regardless of the year of installation, will be required to have periodic testing completed in accordance with ASME A17.1-2013, Power Operation of Door Systems rules 8.6.4.19.8 and 8.6.5.14.3 (g), and items 1.8.1 and 1.8.2 from ASME A17.2-2012.
- Acceptance or alteration inspections shall have testing witnessed as per ASME A17.1-2013, rule 8.10.2.2.1 (h-j).
- For door operator alterations, TSASK will conduct inspections following the completion of work and verify the data recorded by the installation company.
Testing must be completed as part of periodic category 1 or modified 5-year testing, as applicable.
Testing and documentation requirements
- Door systems must have their mass calculated and recorded.
- Door systems must have minimum close times calculated as per ASME A17.1-2013, rule 2.13.4.2.1.
- The door operator must be furnished with a data plate indicating the minimum door closing time (in seconds), that it takes for the door(s) to travel the full code zone distance as per ASME A17.1-2013, rule 2.13.4.2.4 (a-b).
- Floors with heavier doors must also be tested and marked in accordance with ASME A17.1-2013, rule 2.13.4.2.5 (c).
- Periodic test sheets submitted to TSASK must include minimum time(s), actual door time(s), force, and rendering inoperative time(s) if required by ASME A17.1-2013, rule 2.13.5.
Failure to complete regular testing may result in a priority 30-day directive and possible removal of the device from service.
